What Are Cornhole Bags Filled With?

Contrary to the name, professional and competitive cornhole bags are not filled with Corn.  Cornhole bags are filled with plastic resin pellets.  Resin has many advantages – the main one being that it’s waterproof. It’s also cheap, consistent, and easily measurable. Resin also just plays better than corn.

Resin pellets can take on several shapes each with their own characteristics. Flatter resin is more forgiving and help the bag go straighter by reducing cut and bounce. Rounder resin is more “workable” allowing players to throw more cut shots, roll shots, bounce shots, etc.  Different types of resin also allow the bag to feel “fuller” or “floppier” in your hand.

You should try a variety of bags to  see which style you like best.

Why don’t cornhole bags use corn anymore?

There’s lots of problems with corn. For starters it’s inconsistent. The kernels are too big to get a consistent weight for uniform bags – but that’s not the real reason.  Corn is organic – that means it’s can rot or mold or just turn gross. It’s not really waterproof either.  Then there’s the dust. Corn bags can cover the board and players with dust – and most indoor venues don’t want to deal with all the dust
